Faculty Spotlight: Dr. Jamie McAllister
Dr. Jamie McAllister is an adjunct professor at EKU who teaches “Fire Behavior and Combustion.” She also serves as fire protection engineer for the National Institute of Standards and Technology and consulting engineer for Combustion Science & Engineering, Inc.
Why did you choose this field?
I joined the volunteer fire department when I was in high school and became very interested in pursuing a degree in a fire-related field, which led me into fire protection engineering.
What are the highlights of teaching?
I love teaching because it keeps me immersed in the current state of the art in my field, and allows me to learn how to educate individuals from various backgrounds and educational levels.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
Outside of EKU, I work as a full time fire protection engineer for the National Institute of Standards and Technology in Gaithersburg, MD. I enjoy spending my time with my two children and my husband.
