What is a fire science degree?
A Fire Science Degree is a bachelor or associate degree that focuses on teaching principles involved in public fire protection or other fields of fire safety. EKU’s fire programs are more specifically tailored to the job duties students seek. Fire, Arson and Explosion Investigation involves a curriculum that teaches chemistry and dynamics of fire, fuel chemistry, building construction, how fire department operations affect fire investigation, legal matters relating to fire investigation, and courtroom processes that the investigator will likely encounter. This differs from the Fire Protection Administration degree which focuses more on leadership within public fire departments. In examining a program, look for the Program Learning Outcomes to identify learning that is anticipated from study within the program.
